Can You See The Visuals?
Visual communication is the type that I respond the most to. Seeing something boosts the ability to learn if one is good at mimicking things they see. This makes visual communication the most crucial form of communication. Another reason for this is the indisputable verbal communication humans partake in. Without realizing it people communicate with everything they do from the way they're dressed, their body language, and facial expressions. It's not uncommon for people to be able to read facial expressions but most don't often pay close attention to the body language. For example, verbal communication is a means for people to "read the room." Some people may lack the ability to do something like this which means they may not be reading the visual language of the area.
The most important thing for verbal communication would be a combination of the different aspects. Type provides a readable message for audience. It's the most clear and straightforward means of sending a message through verbal communication. Even though type is the most straightforward aspect it's the addition of images, symbols, and colors that make some ads stand out over others. Symbols would be the second most clear means of verbal communication. Symbols are signs that have a meaning attached to them, mostly depending on the cultural surrounding it. For example, if someone couldn't see the color red and the stop sign had no words, they could still tell it’s a stop sign because all stop signs are octagons. Color and images are also important, colors are often associated with feelings and images portray a story in a way symbols can’t, but type and symbols take the cake for the most important of the bunch.
One company with very strong verbal communication is Nike. Nike's check logo is iconic in a way that allows them to just use the logo without text internationally and be recognizable. Even the slogan "Just do it." has been so heavily associated with Nike that the slogan alone could easily be recognized anywhere. The Nike check is a symbol that has grown into its own icon.
McDonalds is another company with iconic verbal communication. Those golden arches can be found all throughout the world and it always means there's a McDonalds close by. The McDonald's M is only a part of the equation, there's also the slogan "I'm lovin' it" which is simple and straightforward. It's so simple it's difficult to forget. Three words (just like Nike's slogan) is all it takes to grab the attention of anyone in the mood for some McDonalds.
Lastly, Google is another high profile logo. It's the simplicity of the logo that carries it so far. At this point googles logo went from a full "google" to a "G". which they use to label all of their amenities. G-mail and G-suites are two examples of how the use their branding. It's become a worldwide symbol for an intricate network of information and a means of organizing school, work, and social lives.
