Peace for the Plants
During President Ronald Reagan’s term was the time thought to have started the war on drugs. It’s because of this presidential war on drugs that many of them have attained a negative connotation. Things like Marijuana became criminalized and caused the incarceration of many individuals. Minorities are more likely to be arrested and convicted for a crime involving marijuana, but things are changing. People in the government, however many or few, are trying to change the countries views on the criminalization of the plant. This change of viewpoints also comes with a reparation of damages done caused by it, most noticeably the release of those incarcerated for cases involving marijuana.
The reason behind this topic needing more awareness is that while there are changes happening to society, the change needs to be applied to all aspects of society. Decriminalizing marijuana would mean that cases involving marijuana need to be reevaluated using new stand points. A conviction of transporting 20 pounds of it would still be a felony but appropriate amounts on hand at appropriate times should not be treated as a worse crime than what it is. So, what does this mean? Inmates should be receiving the ability to appeal their sentences and make a case for release. If the rules are changing so should the consequences.
Keeping all thing consistent throughout change is important to keeping the change afloat. This issue causes an outrage, especially among minorities, because it is simply unfair treatment. Not only are minorities more likely to be arrested for the same crime as a non-minority individual, they have a higher conviction rate as well. Putting a stop, the injustices that happen in that particular community starts with preventing future ones. Starting with the decriminalization of marijuana and working towards returning the freedom to those who have lost it due to outdated perspectives.
1. With legalization comes change in the nation, call your local state representative to ask them to apply pressure on this situation.
2. Be apart of the change, signing the petitions will get to the solution faster.
3. Voting isn't only important on a national level, vote for state representatives who represent the issue of legalization.
Thumbnail number 4 has a very strong design. It is attention grabbing in that it is a very different layout. Maybe consider having the "game board" squares be a bit larger though, and then have all of the information in those spots. Then have the center contain the heading and potentially the hashtag as well. Thumbnail number 3 is also very strong. It is a very clean design and it is not busy at all. It is quick to look at and it gets the point across very fast. Maybe consider having the heading be written differently at the top of the page though, someone may read it as "The you more know" rather than "The more you know." Thumbnail number 2 is also very strong. The graphic and text placement makes the piece easy to look at. Maybe have the word "Weed" be bold of a different color in the heading in order to make it stand out more.
ReplyDeleteThe legalization of marijuana is a contentious issue on all sides of the political spectrum, though it also has bipartisan support. One of the biggest problems, arguably, with the legalization debate is a lack of knowledge on the subject and an abundance of preconceptions. For this reason, it seems logical to create an informational flier, such as is shown in Thumbnail 3. Thumbnail 3 also has strong design elements, such as curved and diagonal lines, which help to indicate the action to be taken by the viewer. The headline on Thumbnail 3 is straightforward and catches the eye. Yet the headline on Thumbnail 2, "FWEEDOM," communicates the entire message of the flier in one, made-up word. A very persuasive flier would combine the strong design elements of thumbnail 3 with the strong headline of thumbnail 2 and include carefully placed diagonal lines to entice action on the part of the viewer.
